Sir Gavin Williamson attended the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal Society Annual Boat Gathering at the Bratch Locks in Wombourne. He took the opportunity to learn more about the inland waterways and engage with local constituents, through immersing himself in the boat rallies and exploring the captivating array of stalls.
Sir Gavin has recently been advocating for increased funding to ensure the vitality and longevity of Staffordshire’s canals. He has met with various stakeholders, including the Chair of the Shrewsbury and North Wales branch of the Inland Waterways Association and the Chief Executive of the Canal and River Trust to discuss what can be done to protect canals.
Sir Gavin said: “It was wonderful to connect with the local community and gain a deeper understanding of the vibrancy canals bring to the constituency. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Canal and River Trust and the Inland Waterways for organising such a great event and for their continued dedication to protecting the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canals.”
