Sir Gavin Williamson recently visited Stafford College to present the ‘Student of the Month’ awards to those students who had gone above and beyond in their studies.
Sir Gavin was impressed by the college, which caters to sixth formers and adult courses. The college features a brand new £28 million Skills and Innovation Centre, alongside a fantastic array of art equipment and other facilities for students to use. Sir Gavin was pleased to hand awards to those who have been working consistently well and dedicating themselves to their studies, presenting awards for academic and creative studies, vocational studies, construction and engineering, and apprentice of the month. The college offers students a rounded learning experience and provides courses that teach practical skills as well as academic pursuits.
Sir Gavin said: “Congratulations to all the students that achieved prizes for their dedication to their studies this month, I was really pleased to be invited to hand out the awards and to be able to applaud those who have notably impressed their teachers by their hard work. I find it really exciting to visit education centres that are pushing for the teaching of vocational studies alongside more traditional academic subjects, as it is so important for us to support the future skills-based generation. The college have had students landing jobs at Michelin Star restaurants as well as working on environmental waste projects, so it is safe to say that the approach at Stafford College is working.”
Craig Hodgson, Principal and Chief Executive of Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group, said: “We were delighted to once again welcome Sir Gavin Williamson CBE MP to NSCG Stafford College to present our Student of the Month awards. It was a fantastic experience for our award winning students to meet one of our local MPs and for us to showcase the incredible talent we have in our thriving college community.”
