Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has called on the London Midland train service to increase the frequency of train services through Bilbrook and Codsall.
The current frequency of trains running through the area at peak time is currently at one per hour. This has caused frustration for those commuters that travel from Bilbrook and Codsall, aiming to get to Birmingham New Street.
The service currently begins just after 6am, with a long gap between 6.40am and 7.58am, a peak time for those aiming to reach work in Wolverhampton and Birmingham on time. There are similar problems with the return services with peak times between 4 and 6 pm having a similar lack of trains.
The number of people who travel from Codsall and Bilbrook to Wolverhampton and Birmingham has increased substantially over the past few years. Gavin has called on the Rail Minister, Claire Perry MP and London Midland to revise the train timetables and accommodate for the growing number of commuters who use their service.
Gavin said: “There is an increasingly large number of South Staffordshire residents that use London Midland train services through Codsall and Bilbrook to get to Wolverhampton and Birmingham. There are already a considerable number of trains that pass the stations but do not stop and I have called on London Midland to take a look at the train services to see if it would be possible for the trains to stop more frequently. Many trains travel through Codsall and Bilbrook but they do not stop. I can’t see why it would not be possible for them to pick up passengers if they are already passing through.”
