Sir Gavin Williamson has called for the introduction of a new bus service in Hixon, to improve local access to facilities.
Sir Gavin has raised his concerns about the lack of facilities in Hixon, which currently doesn’t have a doctor’s surgery, dentist, or pharmacy. The village has a population of over 2,000 and is continuously expanding, yet the nearest doctor’s surgery is in Great Haywood, which is over 3 miles away.
One local resident voiced his concerns, stating that only one bus service goes through the village, from Stafford to Uttoxeter.
Sir Gavin has called for the introduction of a bus service from Hixon to Rugeley, which would go through Great Haywood, enabling residents to use essential facilities there.
Sir Gavin said: ‘There is much to do to improve services in Hixon, and introducing a bus route that connects the village to Great Haywood would be a fantastic place to start. I’ll be doing everything I can in the coming months to work with the relevant authorities and make this happen, so that those who are vulnerable and unable to drive can stay connected and access vital services.’
