Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has called on the Chief Executive of Staffordshire County Council to clarify whether they he intends to market two plots of land situated in Codsall and Bilbrook for housing and development purposes.
The two pieces of land, the former Histons Hill First School in Codsall and Bilbrook House in Bilbrook, are both brownfield sites which could be used to build new homes for the area.
Gavin is concerned that an additional piece of land which is situated in a greenbelt area of the constituency will later be used as a site for new homes.
Gavin has had numerous campaigns centred on preserving the green belt land in the constituency and has also spoken in both in House of Commons and Westminster Hall debates on the importance of its protection. In addition to speaking out about unwarranted development of land he has also campaigned against fly-tipping and Gypsy and Traveller sites.
An overwhelming 98% of residents of Codsall and Bilbrook who responded to a recent survey conducted by Gavin said that they supported Gavin’s campaigns relating to protection of our greenbelt land.
Commenting on this, Gavin said: “I believe that we should preserve as much of our greenbelt land as we possibly can and if this means re-building land that has already been approved for development rather than destroying more greenbelt space then so be it.
“Once our countryside is developed on, we can never get it back and so it is extremely important that we safeguard our greenbelt land right across South Staffordshire. It has been a priority of mine since becoming elected to protect the beautiful area that we live in and I will continue to fight those that seek to develop our green belt land. It is clear that residents in Codsall and Bilbrook want to see the greenbelt land in their village left alone and I hope that Staffordshire County Council will respect their views.”
