Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended the World Book Day Workshop in Parliament to encourage children to ‘share a million stories’.
The day was celebrated by school children in South Staffordshire, who dressed up as their favourite fictional character.
World Book Day is the registered charity for the UK’s biggest annual celebration of children’s books. The charity compiles a list of books for £1 for children and young people across the United Kingdom and Ireland, which they can get for free at their local bookshop due to World Book Day tokens.
Commenting on the day, Gavin said: “It’s brilliant to see the great work that goes on around making World Book Day a success. It is encouraging to see so many children reading and sharing their favourite stories. I am committed to ensuring every child is able to share a story and enjoy the many benefits of reading”.
