Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended the Pattingham Park opening on Friday 4th July.
Gavin said a few words at the event ahead of the official cutting of the ribbon by Mrs. Davies, whose late husband spent 40 years caring for the fields on which the park is located.
The idea for the new play park was formed two and a half years ago, after a group of parents decided that the existing area was dated and needed renovating.
The group, organised by Chairman Christine Roberts, began to raise money through a wide variety of methods, including cake stalls, Christmas light ‘switch on’ events, individual sponsors and even funeral collections.
The Big Lottery gave a grant to purchase the zip wire and the District Council provided the remainder of funds.
Gavin said: “This is a great example of community in action. It is wonderful to see local people working together to create a facility that can be used by all.
“I cannot praise enough the work done by the organisers and volunteers, who have dedicated years towards raising the necessary funds to turn this park into a reality. I am sure the park will be greatly enjoyed by children from the entire local area for many years to come.”
