Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended the annual St George’s Day parade over the weekend in Great Wyrley.
Gavin took part in the parade which included St George riding through the streets of Great Wyrley on his horse, beginning at Harrisons Sports and Social Club. The parade saw a procession of a number of prominent community youth groups including the marching band, Brownies, Cubs, Air and Sea Cadets.
The parade was followed by a Garden Party in the grounds of the Sports and Social Club which included a variety of stalls and activities for all ages, with all proceeds made donated to the Poppy Appeal.
The St George’s Day Parade was organised by the Great Wyrley Carnival Committee who are organising the 40th anniversary Great Wyrley Carnival that will be taking place on Saturday 25th June.
Gavin said: “It was fantastic to see so many people out in Great Wyrley this weekend to support the annual St George’s Day Parade. We were blessed with brilliant weather and I had a wonderful time taking part in the walk. I was delighted to see so many attendees showing how many residents support this important community event.
“I also thoroughly enjoyed myself at the Garden Party afterwards. I hope that there was a lot of money raised for a very worthy cause, the Poppy Appeal. As always I am extremely grateful for the hard work of the Great Wyrley Carnival Committee in organising such an amazing day and I am very much looking forward to the 40th anniversary Carnival that will be taking place on 25th June.”
