Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended the Codsall Community Arts Festival at Codsall Village Hall over the weekend.
The Codsall Community Arts Festival is a biennial festival of music, drama and visual arts. This year’s Festival is being held between 2nd and 19th March, and has covered almost three weeks of daily events.
Gavin attended the festival on the ‘Community Day’ which features a range of family events and workshops, with activities ranging from circus skills to a graffiti workshop and other activities suitable for all ages.
Codsall Community Arts Festival began in 1978 and has been a biennial event ever since.
The Festival has a wide range of activities, encompassing theatre, music, photographs, speakers, dance and demonstrations.
Throughout its existence the Festival has received invaluable support from many sponsors, who include local public and private organisations, businesses, charitable trusts and individuals.
Gavin also presented the prize for the photo competition. The competition, which subject was ‘Within Staffordshire 2015’ had three age categories, juniors, ages 12 and under, Teens, ages 13 to 19 inclusive and Adults, ages 20 and over.
Commenting on the event: Gavin said: “I very much enjoyed being able to attend the Community Day, this weekend, and seeing all the incredible range of activities on offer.
“Events such as the Codsall Community Arts Festival play an extremely important role in the local community. They provide entertainment, an opportunity to socialise, a means to educate and inspire, and a source of funds to many local businesses. There was such an impressive range of talent on display and I was particularly impressed with the entries for the photography competition showing the best of Staffordshire. I would like to thank all those on the organising committee for all their hard work and dedication in making this festival, once again, a resounding success.”
