Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended the Cheslyn Hay Boys’ Brigade awards evening last week.
Gavin presented members with certificates, acknowledging the completion of their respective programmes with Gavin also donating and presenting the award for ‘Best Boy’ at the ceremony.
The Boys' Brigade, which has been active in Cheslyn Hay for over 40 years, works with thousands of young people, many of whom have no other connection with the Church. There are three age groups that meet on at the Salem Methodist Church Hall on alternate weekday evenings; the Anchor Boys ages 5-8, Juniors 8-11 and the Company section ages 11-18.
Nationally, the Boys’ Brigade is working with over 60,000 children and young people in over 1500 companies (groups) in the UK & Republic of Ireland, every week.
The organisation provides a programme of activities for children and young people from 5 to 18 years old. Activities include a range of sports, day trips and the opportunity to compete the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Gavin presented two members of the Boys Brigade with certificates for the Bronze and Silver Award, with Ben Chapman being awarded the President’s Badge and James Waters the Queen’s Badge.
On the awards ceremony, Gavin said: “It was great to yet again to acknowledge the wonderful work and achievements of so many young people in and around Cheslyn Hay. This is a truly fantastic group that offers young people so many brilliant opportunities.
“I am proud to see how much hard work is put in by both the boys and also the volunteers which make the Cheslyn Hay Boys’ Brigade such a successful organisation. I would like to congratulate all those who won an award and I am looking forward to all the positive things that they will achieve over the next year.”
