Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, today attended the launch of a fundraising campaign for local charity High Flyers.
High Flyers is seeking to raise money to allow it to acquire its own headquarters, following recent difficulties with its existing lease.
High Flyers is a local charity service providing day opportunities for adults with learning disabilities in the Wombourne area.
The organisation was given notice to terminate its current headquarters, in Pegasus House, earlier this year.
An extension was granted, following an intervention by Gavin. However, there are now fears that the rent is likely to increase.
Gavin and Councillor Mike Davies were instrumental in obtaining the original building for the charity’s use and, along with a series of local residents, helped the High Flyers carry out an extensive refurbishment of the premises.
Following the revamp, facilities include an I.T suite, art room, multi-purpose activity rooms, common room, brand new kitchen/diner and sensory room.
Now, with fears of a rent increase looming, High Flyers is determined to purchase its own premises to safeguard the long term future of the charity.
Gavin said: “This is a wonderful charity and I cannot praise enough all the work that it does to help adults with learning difficulties throughout Staffordshire.
“I, like many other local residents, feel extremely invested in the High Flyer’s success and we will all continue to work our utmost to ensure that it finds a permanent home.”
The fundraising campaign kicked off today with a publicity event and YouTube video.
