Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Havergal Primary School in Shareshill last week to meet with pupils and teachers.
Gavin was given a tour of the school and spoke to pupils about his role as an MP. He met with the head teacher who is seeking funding to improve school facilities to help further improve the school.
Since the appointment of a new head teacher, Paul Mitchell, and a governing body, the school has seen an increase in the number of pupils wanting a place and is now one of the most popular schools in the area. Due to the increase in popularity the school has almost reached capacity. With additional funding the school plan to build bigger classrooms to accommodate the increasing number of pupils who wish to attend.
Gavin said: “I had a wonderful time visiting Havergal Primary School, meeting the pupils and teachers. It is clear that the school in making fantastic progress since being placed in Special Measures which is clear by its increasing popularity in the community.
“We have a duty to provide the best school facilities we can. It is vital that we do everything possible to ensure that our children get the best start in life. Havergal School needs more funding to be able to invest in the future of pupils and ultimately enhance the learning environment.
“I am so impressed with the progress that has been made and I look forward to hearing more about the school in the near future.”
