Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, took 21 students from Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High School on a tour of Parliament today.
Gavin showed the group around Westminster Hall, Central Lobby, the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Following the tour, the students sat in the Members’ area of Committee Room 12 as Gavin spoke to them about the role of an MP.
The Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School pupils then queried Gavin over topics ranging from energy and security to HS2.
On departure, all of the students received a copy of the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement from Gavin to commemorate their day in Parliament.
Discussing the visit, Gavin said: “I greatly enjoyed meeting the pupils and staff from Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High School. They were all extremely engaged in the tour and asked numerous intelligent questions about the internal workings of Parliament, as well as politics on a national scale.
“I first became interested in politics on a school trip to Parliament and I hope that this recent visit may have similarly inspired some of the students from Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High School to pursue a career in the political sphere.”
